Nordic Aviation Technology Centre is a qualified university of applied sciences that educates aviation engineers with a focus on helicopters. We follow European aviation regulations and give our students a foundation for an exciting future in the international aviation industry.
Our adapted training facilities are just 10 minutes from Luleå city center, next to Lulea Airport and neighbor with Norrbotten Air Flotilla (F21) and one of the Helicopter Flotilla's squadrons.
The education follows the University of Applied Sciences regulations and the European aviation regulations according to EASA (European Aviation Safety Agency), which means that after the education you are authorized to work throughout Europe. We collaborate with a number of different airlines throughout the country where our students receive parts of their practical training. Through collaboration with other education programs in Sweden, there is the opportunity to graduate towards aviation. Great importance is also placed on qualified continuing education for the staff as well as international contacts and exchanges.
Nordiskt Flygteknikcentrum AB is 100 percent owned by Luleå Kommunföretag AB. The board consists of Johanna Myrland (Mp) as chairman, Dag Elias Sundberg (M), Roger Eriksson (L), Kati Jääskeläinen (V) and Dan Innala (S).

The training has a good reputation, largely thanks to our instructors who have both broad experience from various assignments in the aviation industry and a great commitment to giving our students a good foundation to be able to work in the aviation industry.
Employed since 2006. CEO, Quality Manager and instructor.
Jonas worked in healthcare before he developed an interest in aviation and applied to Luleå University of Technology, where he trained as an aeronautical engineer. He now teaches here at NFTC and is also a guest lecturer at the university and is responsible for quality. Since autumn 2023, he has also been acting CEO. Jonas has a great interest in technology and aviation but also in music. In his spare time, he plays guitar in several bands.
”The contact with the students is the best part of being an instructor. You feel like you are contributing something to their future career. Some of them I have continued to have contact with even later when they have become full-fledged flight engineers.”
Instructor since 2017. Training Manager and Accountable Manager.
Carl first trained as an aircraft mechanic and then directly as an aircraft technician. During his training, he started working part-time at Kallax Flyg in Piteå, which is Sweden's largest privately owned helicopter company, and then got a permanent job after his training. Much of the time he worked in Abisko, Nikkaluokta and other places in the mountains. Now he is back as an instructor. In his free time, he drives a snowmobile, hunts and spends time with his partner and children.
”The best thing about the job as an instructor is the contact with all the people. Some of them you continue to have contact with even after they graduate. One guy works at a helicopter repair shop and travels all over the world while some others work in Norway.”
Instructor since 2021. Examination Manager.
Sebastian completed his secondary education as an aircraft mechanic, continued with further training as an aircraft technician (helicopter) in Linköping and eventually got a job at Jämtlandsflyg. After two years, he began to long to return to Norrbotten. He applied for and got a job at Westhelicopter, which was later bought by Kallax Flyg. He worked here for just over six years before starting as an instructor with us in May 2021. After working elsewhere, he is now back with us.
Most of his free time is spent with his family and carpentry on the house in Gammelstad where he lives with his wife and two children. When he has time, he enjoys spending time with his friends.
Instructor since February 2020.
Anders comes from F21 and has worked with both helicopters and most recently with the JAS 39 Gripen where he was section manager at the JAS workshop. He spends his free time with his grandchildren and renovating vintage cars at his farm in Persön. He also shares his interest in cars with his wife and adult children.
"It feels great to contribute my knowledge to help train new aviation engineers, because it will be needed in the future. Both in the civil and defense sectors."
Instructor since March 2024.
After five years at the aircraft repair shop at F21 and before that working at various workshops, Emelie felt it was the right time to do something new. She accepted the offer to become an instructor here at NFTC, where she herself had once been a student. Emelie lives in an apartment in Luleå with her two dogs Chloe and Bibbi. She also has three horses, so most of her free time is spent taking care of all her animals. She also competes in horse jumping.
"Becoming an instructor and having the opportunity to teach others what I know and see them develop feels both interesting and is a good step in terms of my own development. Plus, I like new challenges"
Instructor since fall 2021.
"I really enjoy being an instructor and like to see the development of our students, from the time they come in and perhaps never seen an airplane up close to when they graduate and can service the machines."
Instructor since 2023.
Mikko comes from Finland where he studied electricity and automation. He worked in that field for a while and then moved to Luleå where he trained as a primary school teacher. After 4.5 years as a teacher, he returned to the electrical profession and worked for a period with service within electricity and automation before taking the opportunity to become an instructor with us. Mikko lives in Bredviken with his wife and four children and in his free time he plays floorball and fixes things around the house.
